About Musarat's Safe Haven

"There is a bunch of grapes in the nightingale's beak; the heart longs for us to meet, but the journey is very far."

— Musarat Begum

Musarat's Safe Haven was founded in loving memory of a beautiful soul, Musarat Begum, whose warmth, wisdom, and words left an indelible mark on everyone she met.

The heart and identity of our charity are rooted in a poem written by Musarat herself. Life can often feel like that very far, isolating journey. Whether it is a new mother navigating the silent struggles of post-natal depression, an elderly woman feeling disconnected from the modern world, or a young man facing the harsh pressures of the streets, many in our Bradford community are walking difficult paths alone.

Our logo — the nightingale carrying a bunch of grapes — is a direct symbol of Musarat's message. The nightingale represents love, expression, and hope, while the grapes represent sustenance, care, and comfort.

Musarat's Safe Haven exists to bridge the distance on those long journeys. We provide free, non-judgemental, grassroots spaces where people can finally meet, find a listening ear, share life wisdom, and heal together over a warm cup of tea or a shared meal. We are here to ensure that no one in our community has to walk their journey alone.
